Corona has Hit the World’s Rewind Button

Categories Human Nature, Lifestyle, Meditation

Today’s days arrived
when they were least expected;
today’s days that are
more of days of sadness
than days of joy.

Before today’s sad days arrived
humanity went about daily life
with impunity,
without a care,
full of hate, greed, jealousy,
and with least regard for the other.

Before today’s days,
humanity was so puffed up
in its pomps and pride,
that its interdependence
was overlooked.

Before today’s days
well endowed folks
who were living,
looked down on
the folks beside them
who were meagerly endowed
and just trying to survive.

Before today’s days
those who live in palaces,
conveniently forgot or ignored
that they depended wholly
on services provided,
in their offices, work places and homes,
by the lesser endowed
who live in slums.

But then Corona came;
and is using the innate interdependence
to spread within humanity
like wild fire.

Due to Corona,
humanity now has to
hide from itself by practicing
hand hygiene measures,
by observing social distance
and by wearing face coverings;

During today’s days
when humanity
feels like a fish out of water,
it misses the days
before today’s days.

Humanity can see clearly now
how closely-knit
it has been all along
in public places such as restaurants
in houses of worship
in schools and colleges
at places of work
and in public transport
whether on land, sea or air.

During today’s days
when the whole of humanity,
from the slum to State House,
and from the ghetto to White House,
feels like it is drowning,
and is looking for any straw to catch,
it is coming to grips with
the fact that it was God’s purpose
for it to be interdependent
for it to love one another
for it to be there for one another
regardless of status, religion, race,
tribe, creed, or sexual orientation.

During today’s days
when humanity continues
to reap what it sowed;
it continues to realize
that we are nothing but for the other;
that the survival of one
depends on the action of the other.

During today’s days
humanity seems to have
realized its sins
whether of omission or commission.
Humanity seems to be praying vehemently
that it is not living its last mile.

During today’s days
all of humanity seems to be in unison
in believing that its prayers
continue to be heard by its God,
who is Almighty,
a God of second chances,
a miracle working God,
a jealous but just God,
and a faithful God.

During today’s days
all of humanity seems to be praying
to God Almighty
to give it a second chance
so that humanity can witness
tomorrow’s days.

I am an epic introvert, who quickly becomes an open book when I pen what’s in my significantly fertile mind; fertile as a result of bombardment by realities that are continuously captured by my inquisitive eyes, ears which are constantly rubbing the ground, through constant reading, and through dreaming too.

Writing provides an opportunity to ‘say’ what my unapologetic quiet mouth will not say; which not only soothes me, but also bequeaths to me a relief, a release, and a hope that the written words will change the world, even if only one person at a time.

And so should you seek, that’s where to find me; deeply tucked inside the blankets of reading, seeing, listening, dreaming, and then writing.
