What A Full Life It Has Been For The Baby Boomer Generation

On my mind are those of us folks who were born in the nineteen fifties and sixties:

We, thankfully, got an education in the sixties, seventies, and extending into the eighties, the latter period of which was interspersed with moments of leisure.

This was followed by a period of stabilization and getting wiser, somewhat.

The most important focus of my mind, however, is that regardless of all the odds, we made it to the twenty twenties.

Of special mention is that our lives have traversed at least seven different decades, two different centuries, and two different millennia; and life still goes on.

We have witnessed transformation of telephone from a fixed line through to different mobile versions.

We have witnessed film and music presentation evolve from radio and big-screen cinema to television, gramophone players, jukeboxes, floppy disks, video cassettes, compact disks, flash disks, and now internet streaming.

We have communicated through handwritten letters, also called snail mail, which were transmitted via post offices, to email and now to instant messaging Apps like SMS and WhatsApp.

We missed the Spanish Flu but have been in time for Covid-19.

We lived through the fluctuating bell bottom, miniskirt, maxi, and drain pipe dressing eras.

We have walked, cycled, rode, drove, traveled on railroads, over seas, underground in metros, surfed, and flown.

Cycling shoe-less

We had an analogue beginning but have been forced by circumstances to adapt to a digital space.

We have witnessed so much and more in every dimension of life.

My mind wonders whether those who were born before us went through this amount of change. It also wonders whether the young ones who were born after us will undergo as much change.

I am an epic introvert, who quickly becomes an open book when I pen what’s in my significantly fertile mind; fertile as a result of bombardment by realities that are continuously captured by my inquisitive eyes, ears which are constantly rubbing the ground, through constant reading, and through dreaming too.

Writing provides an opportunity to ‘say’ what my unapologetic quiet mouth will not say; which not only soothes me, but also bequeaths to me a relief, a release, and a hope that the written words will change the world, even if only one person at a time.

And so should you seek, that’s where to find me; deeply tucked inside the blankets of reading, seeing, listening, dreaming, and then writing.
