On the one hand, in sympathy and empathy,
they seek to save life and heal the world;
by lending a helping hand,
give hope, and make the day
brighter for people facing
life-threatening natural calamities.
On the other hand, in rage,
they brand the others as terrorists, jihad,
neo-nazis or inferior race, then rain bombs,
destruction and anguish, having no qualms
whether they shed the innocent blood
of children and the defenseless.
In between are the cheer-ons and on-lookers;
clueless analysts who use lenses that are
tinted with their own perception
of justice and revenge; to add fuel to the fire
as they watch the drama of war play on,
and pain, suffering, and trauma being inflicted.
Evil and injustice therefore seem
to prevail over good;
but it doesn’t have to be that way.
Dear humanity, to regain sanity,
sit back, relax, take a deep breath and
find it in your heart to value human life;
create the peaceful, cohesive and
civilized society that seems so elusive;
heed the lessons from King Solomon and
Alexander the Great that, “All is vanity”;
that in war, there never is a winner; and,
choose tranquility over carnage.
